Habitat for Humanity | Designing Affordable Housing

Habitat for Humanity Course Winter & Spring 2022

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, I collaborated with a team of 10 students to design a duplex in Addison County, Vermont, aimed at providing affordable housing for families in need. Over the course of two semesters, we worked closely with the Habitat for Humanity board, conducting thorough site research and analysis to shape our designs. Our primary goal was to deliver finalized schematic designs, which we presented to the board of trustees for evaluation at the end of the semester.

To manage the project effectively, we divided into smaller teams: some focused on hand-drawing prints & renderings, others on materiality and 3D modeling, while others worked on Revit drawings. The document below represents the culmination of our collective hard work and dedication, showcasing our shared efforts and the lessons we gained throughout the process.

Although I didn’t participate in the final semester, when construction documents were completed, the homes are now under construction. Designed to be net-zero and in line with Vermont’s energy efficiency guidelines, these homes will significantly reduce living costs for the families they will eventually support.
